What are the criteria for renting out your house for filming?

To rent your house for filming with a location scouting agency, there are a number of criteria to take into account to ensure a successful experience.

Location

For logistical reasons, properties located close to a major city with relatively easy access, whether by motorway or train station, are often preferred by producers.

Surface area

The Place to See accepts properties in all sizes, as the needs of productions vary. Whether the property is spacious and bright, or more intimate, it can be just right for different projects.

Type of decor

When it comes to the type of setting they are looking for, location scouting agencies are mainly looking for places with very different styles and atmospheres: a renovated house with a contemporary design, an untouched flat, or a bohemian, industrial or 70s setting.

Ownership

Owning the property is a sine qua non for offering it for rent. In somes cases, it is possible to obtain written authorisation from the owner agreeing to rent out the property for audiovisual productions or photo shoots.

Ease of access to the venue

Ease of logistics and accessibility are important criteria to consider. Properties located in streets with available parking, or flats with lifts or a service staircase, are highly appreciated for their ease of transporting equipment.

How do I list my property with a location scouting agency?

The Place to See, a French location scouting agency, offers to list your property so that it can be rented out for projects.

To list with The Place to See, the process is as follows:

  • Go to https://www.theplacetosee.fr/en where you will find a specific form for submitting your venue proposal. This venue proposal form includes fields to fill in with fairly detailed information about the venue in question (location, surface area, decorative style). It is often essential to send photos to enable agency to assess the venue’s potential for film shoot (firl, music video, advertising) and photo shoots.

  • Once the form has been submitted, the agency will respond favourably or unfavourably to the proposal as soon as possible. If the response is positive, The Place to Se may contact you to arrange a meeting to take photographs of your property, particularly if it is located in the Paris region. Otherwise, owners can provide detailed photos of their home.

  • Once the appointment has been made, a mandate is drawn up between the owner and the location scouting agency to formalise the collaboration.

  • Once the mandate has been drawn up, a range of daily rental prices for shoots and filming is set. This price range takes into account the characteristics of the location, its location and any production requirements.
